This is not a painting neither a Photoshop but an un-edited photo taken by a National Geographic photographer at a place called Dead Vlei in Namibia. What you see behind the trees is a sand dune and the white blotches are the patches of grass. The colors look off because the picture was taken at the time of dawn hence the sand dune is bathed with early morning light while the foreground is still under shadow.
