Orange Festival – Netherlands

By on May 19, 2010 in Travel

The Queens Day or Koninginnedag of Netherlands falls on 30 April. Orange is the color of their Royal family. You can see that the Amsterdam’s streets, roads, parks and canals come alive in a sea of Orange. It is preferable if not mandatory to wear orange during this national event of the Amsterdam Orange Festival.

I hope the oranges used were eaten after the festival.

Hi, although this comment is a bit outdated, I would still like you to know that the above pictures have absolutely nothing to do with the Dutch Queensday (as it’s commonly referred to) and are definitely not taken in the Netherlands. My guess would be India.
It it true that everyting in the Netherlands turns orange at this day, but this hardly ever involves oranges, or sculptures made with oranges like the above.

Hope you will get the chance to experience a real Queensday once!

    Regards,
    Rinke (from Amsterdam)
